The Problem
What healthcare challenge is being addressed?
Many chronically ill patients still die from preventable causes: poor real-time monitoring, delayed recognition of subtle deterioration, fragmented medical records and weak communication between facilities, especially during emergencies, referrals and transfers.
The Solution
What is being proposed?
Smart wearables such as smart rings and smartwatches continuously collect vital health data from patients living with chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension and obesity, enabling early detection of deterioration before complications become life-threatening.
Blockchain provides secure, private and transparent storage of that data. As a decentralised system it protects patient confidentiality while allowing consented data sharing, so records can be accessed across multiple hospitals during referrals, emergencies, transfers, or when patients are in remote or underserved areas. Anonymised data could also support ethical medical research.

DREAM Journey
How did the idea evolve?
I joined the DREAM program driven by a deep personal desire to explore how innovation and technology could be leveraged to protect vulnerable patients and improve continuity of care. My personal dream was to design a solution that could reduce preventable deaths among chronically ill patients by addressing the persistent challenges of monitoring, data security, and healthcare accessibility. DREAM provided a platform not only to imagine solutions, but to challenge ideas, refine them, and align innovation with real human needs.
I was the pioneer and originator of this project, conceptualizing its vision, structure, and impact. The idea was driven by a deep concern for patient safety, healthcare accessibility, and the need for innovative solutions in chronic disease management.
One of the most transformative moments in my DREAM journey was realizing that innovation is not only about having a good idea, but about understanding feasibility, collaboration, and impact. While the project did not win and was not fully actualized, the experience fundamentally changed my perspective. It challenged me to think critically, accept setbacks as part of growth, and appreciate the importance of multidisciplinary teamwork in bringing ideas to life. That moment, learning to see value beyond outcomes, became one of the most significant lessons of the program.
Through DREAM, I gained enduring skills and values that extend far beyond the project itself. These include design thinking, problem-solving, leadership, resilience, ethical innovation, and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. I also developed a stronger appreciation for patient-centered care, equity in healthcare access, and responsible use of emerging technologies.
Equally impactful was the DREAM community itself. The mentorship, teamwork, and shared ambition within the program created an environment that encouraged growth, confidence, and intellectual curiosity. Engaging with like-minded peers and mentors refined my thinking, strengthened my belief in collaborative innovation, and reaffirmed the importance of community in driving meaningful change.
Participating in DREAM has profoundly shaped how I view my future. It reinforced my commitment to innovation, research, and healthcare systems improvement, and solidified my aspiration to contribute solutions that bridge technology with compassionate care. Although the project did not reach full implementation, it remains a defining milestone in my journey, one that continues to influence my purpose, direction, and belief that impactful ideas, when nurtured in the right environment, can shape better futures for patients and communities alike.
