DREAM Journey
How did the idea evolve?
My name is Mutai Kiprono Brian, a third year medical student. My basic passion is bridging the gap between scientific discoveries and patients' wellbeing in a bid to make an impact in the healthcare world. My project, 'BioShield Ethosomes', was a culmination of this drive.
I was motivated to join DREAM because it offered a perfect opportunity to explore the full potential of my idea. I believed that DREAM was a unique platform where ambitious ideas could be presented and refined without fear of skepticism. My personal goal was to learn from the best, as I hoped it would provide mentorship and a framework to test the real-world potential of the idea.
A truly pivotal moment was learning I had advanced to the finals after the first round. The significance wasn't in this achievement alone, but the profound feeling of validation. It was then that I had faith in the healthcare innovative idea. I can say without fear of doubt that this was a real vote of confidence that injected a higher level of purpose and focus into the work that lay ahead.
With DREAM, I improved my communication skills through pitching. I learnt how to communicate complex science in a simple way to ensure clarity and understanding even when addressing non-science oriented individuals. More importantly, I learned to treat feedback not as criticism but as a way of redefining and rebuilding my idea. The innovation contest also taught me about holistic integration, connecting dots between pharmaceutical ideas and the world of business.
Being part of the DREAM community was greatly impactful. My fellow innovators mentored and motivated me every step of my journey. This mentorship helped me reshape my ideas and was the perfect guide to translate the pharmaceutical idea into practical solutions. In addition, I made so many friends along the way, sharing the breakthroughs and challenges with persons who were equally passionate about healthcare innovation.
DREAM project has taught me to be bold with ideas and develop resilience in the process. My passion in research and patient-centered healthcare has been immensely reinforced. Real change starts with bold ideas and the courage to pursue them. The DREAM project instilled this courage in me. Moving forward, I am more focused, more inspired and determined to come up with innovations that shape our healthcare space.
