Gaps in chronic disease management, a burden worldwide, seen first-hand during clinical rotations.

Joining DREAM was a deeply personal decision for me. As a medical student passionate about technology, I saw the program as the perfect bridge between healthcare and innovation. I hoped to explore how digital health solutions could address some of the biggest challenges I had witnessed during my clinical rotations, especially gaps in chronic disease management, which is a burden worldwide. My personal dream was to contribute to a scalable, meaningful solution that could empower patients, ease the burden on healthcare systems, and strengthen disease surveillance in Kenya and beyond. One defining moment during the DREAM journey was the day our team mapped out the first functional framework for our digital health assistant. Seeing ideas transform into a tangible prototype challenged me to think more boldly and creatively. It pushed me outside the typical clinical mindset and into a space where empathy, innovation, and systems-thinking intersected. That moment made me realize that the future of medicine is not just clinical; it is deeply technological. Through DREAM, I gained practical skills in problem-solving, teamwork, digital health innovation, pitching, and design thinking. I learned the importance of user-centered design: building solutions around people rather than systems. I also gained invaluable soft skills: resilience, adaptability, and the confidence to pursue ambitious ideas despite uncertainty. These are lessons I know will stay with me throughout my medical and entrepreneurial journey. The DREAM community was at the heart of my experience. Working with colleagues with different innovative ideas, motivating each other through the pitching, was epic. The friendships formed created a safe environment for experimentation and learning. The encouragement, constructive feedback, and shared passion within the DREAM community shaped not only our project but also my personal growth. Participating in DREAM has expanded the way I view my future. I now see myself not only as a clinician but also as an innovator and leader in digital health. The experience strengthened my desire to build technology-driven solutions that enhance healthcare accessibility, equity, and effectiveness. Moving forward, I carry with me a renewed sense of purpose, a clearer vision, and the belief that DREAM was just the beginning of a much bigger journey.
